Chinese Apples Face Crunch Time as India Blocks Imports

India will restrict Chinese exports of apples and pears from June due to phytosanitary concerns. That coincides with India’s peak import season, but the trough export period for China. India only accounted for 10% of Chinese exports of apples and pears in the past year. Yet, India-bound shipments climbed 167% vs. a 22% rise in the global total. A bigger risk is that other countries follow suit, leaving shippers including Shanghai GAF and Rusan Sunrise looking for alternatives.
