Chinese-owned VDL Farms plans to export milk by air to China from Tasmania from next year. Euromonitor estimate China’s milk demand could grow 8% annually. Panjiva data shows powdered milk imports have been in decline, dropping 10% in August. Yet, fresh milk imports jumped 28% in August after climbing steadily for two years. Import growth has so far come from the EU after production quotas ended, with VDL Farms’ move potentially adding 6% to Chinese imports of Australian milk.
