Ferroglobe Petition May Mean Foreign Companies Benefit from U.S. Case

Ferroglobe has petitioned the U.S. ITC to investigate exports of silicon metal from four countries to the U.S., which it alleges were dumped at margins of up to 135%. The ITC has 45 days (April 24) to make a preliminary decision, though the support of unions and alleged loss of jobs may draw the administration more closely into the fray. Panjiva data shows U.S. imports actually fell 27% in the fourth quarter of 2016 on a year earlier, while imports from the four countries accused increased 8%. It’s not just American producers that have lost out.
