Grimaldi Optimistic About Scrubbers as ACL Market Share Holds Station

Grimaldi has signed a deal to upgrade the sulphur dioxide (SOx) scrubbers on its Atlantic Container Line (ACL) vessels using Alfa Laval’s remote data systems. That should allow ACL to continue using heavy fuel oil (HFO) when new IMO emissions rules take effect in 2020, rather than use lower sulphur but more expensive marine gasoil (MGO). Currently the cost differential between the two is $262 per ton according to S&P Global Platts data which could give ACL an advantage once the new equipment is paid for.
