Hanjin, Samsung Nightmares Pass as South Korea Growth Awakens

South Korean imports increased 6%, and exports by 7% on a year earlier in December, ahead of economists expectations. Import growth was the highest since April 2014. The increase in exports was driven in large part by a 10% growth in shipments to China. A continued upbeat outlook by managers there suggests growth can continue. U.S. exports fell 2%, though shipments remain robust, with a 5% rise shown by Panjiva data, with the result that currency effects are likely to blame.
