Container line Hapag-Lloyd reported revenue growth of 17.1% year over year in Q4’20 including a 3.8% rise in volumes and a 7.5% increase in achieved rates per container. The increase in rates was somewhat slower than the increases at Maersk and CMA CGM which rose by 17.7% and 18.0% respectively. Declining rates on Transatlantic lanes for Hapag-Lloyd may explain the difference. The firm expects “significant increases” in both container rates and bunker fuel costs in 2021.
