Hong Kong Hurdles Holiday Hiatus As Growth Continues

China 2977 Corp - Ports 882 Mode - Containerized 1473 Mode - Seaborne 1804 U.S. 5323

The Port of Hong Kong handled 4% more traffic in January than a year earlier. That was a fourth straight month of growth. While the rate of expansion was much slower than that seen in December, this likely reflects the two-week earlier lunar new year holiday. The port outperformed the Chinese mainland, which expanded 3%, possibly due to a 5% increase in U.S.-bound volumes. These include a significant proportion, around 23%, of transshipment volumes.
