Californian airports LAX and Ontario handled 8% more incoming freight in September, the sixth straight increase on a year earlier. This may represent increased freight handled by air due to the disruption caused by Hanjin Shipping’s administration. That was reflected in seaborne imports to Long Beach that dropped 17%. Nonetheless, the strength in airfreight meant the California region Panjiva Combined Cargo Index increased 4% in September, a good sign for imports ahead of the holiday peak in October.
