The EU has applied anti-dumping tariffs of 42% on Chinese exports of steel tube butt-welding fittings. This follows similar cases in corrosion-resistant, heavy plate and cold-rolled steels as well as products including seamless pipes and iron grates. It also comes as the EU is trying to make its procedures tougher. Panjiva data shows Chinese exports to the EU of the broad category of steels involved in this case fell 16% in the three months to November 30. Yet, a global drop of 24% suggests it is demand not the trade case that is the driving factor.
