Japan’s automakers increased their exports 3% on a year earlier, Panjiva’s analysis of company financial statements shows, led by a 38% rise in exports by Nissan and 20% by Honda. Shipments to the U.S. fell 17%, though performance was uneven with Nissan’s shipments jumping 187% and Honda’s by 209%. Inventory management meant Nissan cut its U.S. production, which may bring it into President Trump’s crosshairs – though so far he has focussed more on Mexico-based production.
