Panama Effect Yet to Be Felt as Bookings Slow

Transits of the Panama Canal climbed 12.2% in July as it welcomed a steady stream of neo-panamax vessels. However, its volumes vs. a year earlier are down, and bookings of neo-panamax slots were only 47% of those available. A transfer of imports from west- to east-coast U.S. has yet to make itself felt – California actually did better in July, Panjiva data shows.
