Sales surge, imports slow in autos sector as parts shortages loom

U.S. auto sales surged 8.4% higher year over year in February on a jump in purchases of light trucks. Foreign built vehicle sales rose by 4.4%, reversing a 4.0% slide in the prior three months. U.S. seaborne imports of vehicles suggest that automakers may not expect that growth to continue with shipments in January and February down by 9.4% year over year.
