Shipments from China’s highly-concentrated port system to the U.S. increased 2.8% in July, resulting in the first quarterly growth since February. Shanghai led with 7.1% growth, indicating strong demand for basic consumer goods in the U.S. Ningbo’s shipments jumped 13%, perhaps reflecting stronger toy exports. Hong Kong dropped 5.5% as its transshipment business continues to wane.
