Squeeze Reprieve for Mexican Lemons as Argentina Waits

Argentine lemons will have to wait a little while longer to enter the U.S. market. The USDA is reported to have delayed approval for a second time – the first being in late January. That may partly be due to a reassessment of the Generalized System of Preferences by the new U.S. administration. Understaffing at the USDA due to delayed confirmations may also be a factor. Panjiva data shows Mexican producers accounted for 93% of U.S. imports in the 12 months to January 31, while the U.S accounted for essentially all Mexican exports.
