GoPro’s Karma camera drone goes on sale on October 23, and enters a competitive but rapidly growing drone market. U.S. imports of drones and quadcopters jumped 230% in September on a year earlier according to Panjiva data, and may more than triple in October. Many of these are going to toy retailers – Toys’R’Us imported half of all drones in September. GoPro’s move comes as total camera imports have begun to recover, by 6% in September. Yet, seaborne imports of products relating to GoPro (including cases etc) fell by 69% ahead of the company’s earnings on November 3.
