Prime Minister Trudeau will make a state visit to India from February 17. Talks with Prime Minister Modi will likely include trade matters. So far trade between the two has been accelerated, with Canadian exports to India having growth 11% year-to-date at November 30. Yet, the exports are focused on primary materials including legumes (33% of the total), coal (11%) and fertilizers (8%). Canada is also effectively in competition with the EU (which is negotiating the BTIA trade deal) and U.S. attempts to expand bilateral trade.
