The Belgium federal and regional governments reached an agreement that should allow the CETA trade deal with Canada to proceed. Yet, there are conditions in the deal that may mean approval could be revoked up to a year after signing. There are still approval risks in Germany and the Netherlands. Panjiva analysis shows Canada probably needs the deal more than the EU. Canada’s global exports fell 2.5% in August, and the EU accounts for 9% of its trade, but EU exports increased 3% and Canada is just 2% of its trade.
