The World Trade Bridge crossing between Mexico and the United States at Laredo will be closed from May 22 to May 29 after extreme rainfall caused damage, Associated Press reports. Traffic is being diverted via the nearby Colombia Solidarity bridge, but delays are inevitable.

Panjiva data shows exports from Mexico via Nuevo Laredo accounted handling for 39.9% of truck exports and 20.8% of total exports in the three months to March 31 in number of shipments. A resurgence in handling had been on the way – shipments in March were 5.4% higher than a year earlier even though the first quarter in total saw a 0.4% decline. Key consignees may face disruption include consumer products groups Colgate-Palmolive and Procter & Gamble and manufacturers such as Johnson Controls and auto-part supplier Lear.
