American Arms Trade in Decline Even as Order Books Are Reloaded

The U.S. runs a $7.7 billion trade annual surplus in arms including aircraft, vehicles, weapons and other systems. New export orders worth $5.3 billion were approved in July, the highest since October and 2.5x the prior year’s level. Yet, these are multi-year program and current deliveries are declining. Exports of vehicles and armaments fell 1% in July, while military aircraft shipments dropped 24% to deliver their worst month since April 2014.
