CMA-CGM Makes Most of Panama as Transits Rise on Tariff Rush, Lower Maintenance

Shipping transits via the Panama Canal climbed 7% on a year earlier in June, driven in part by a reduction in maintenance on a year earlier that account for around 9% of capacity. Shipments by all vessel classes improved, including a 28% rise in neopanamax shipments resulting from increased slot allocations as Panama continued to compete with the Suez Canal. Diversions of Asian traffic via the Canal climbed with shipments to ports east of the Canal up 19% vs. ust 5% for west coast ports.
