Few routes safe from surcharges as CMA CGM hikes India-Mexico rate

The range of container shipping routes becoming subject to peak season surcharges is widening with CMA CGM applying extra charges for shipments from India and Pakistan to Central America. Exports from India to Central America increased by 13.8% in April 2021 versus April 2019 and are dominated by automotive and pharmaceutical shipments. The latter climbed 62.8% while automotive shipments fell by 12.2% due to component shortages. Looking more specifically, imports to Mexico from India fell by 8.8% in the three months to May 31.
