Fiat Chrysler’s announcement of $1 billion of investment in U.S. auto-production includes a reference to production of the Ram, which currently occurs in Mexico. While this doesn’t mean production will be ‘moved’ it is another sign of the automakers pre-empting the incoming administration’s trade policies. Panjiva data shows Fiat Chrysler was the third largest Mexican exporter of autos and trucks to the U.S. in 2016 through November 30 behind Nissan and Ford, and similar in scale to VW.
