Hapag-Lloyd May Need California Edge To Beat MSC in Mexican Market

Hapag-Lloyd’s annual review of Mexican shipping indicates it sees double digit percentage growth in volumes in 2018 if the economy remains robust. The container-line stated that its exports in 2017 grew by a “double digit” amount and imports by 6%. The latter suggests it lost market share as import volumes have increased by 20% on a year-to-date basis. Hapag-Lloyd will face a fight to expand further on Mexico-U.S. routes which accounts for 29% of Mexican outbound traffic.
