U.S. import TEUs increased 1.4% in July. Maersk and MSC, still the two largest shippers, experienced lower volumes (5% and 0.5% respectively) and lost market share to a resurgent Evergreen during the month. Amongst the Japanese shippers NYK and K-Line outperformed Mitsui-OSK. Over the longer term Hapag-Lloyd has steadily gained market share even ahead of its merger with UASC. By contrast the combined CMA-CGM and Neptune Orient lost market share ahead of their deal completion during the month.
