Mechanical Tube Case Doesn’t Close Pipeline, Raises Costs For Buyers

The U.S. Commerce Department has determined that exports of mechanical steel tubing from six countries including China were dumped in the U.S. The case is somewhat complicated in that the products concerned are also covered by the section 232 review of the industry, which will add 25% to any final duties. The case hasn’t made a massive difference to market conditions though. Total imports in February were their lowest since April 2013, but shipments from the countries covered by the case only fell 20% in the past three months on a year earlier.
