The Port of Savannah’s handling of containers expanded 16% in January compared to a year earlier. That was the fastest rate of growth since June 2015 and the third straight month of expansion. Notably the ratio of imports to exports reached its highest for the month of January since at least 2007. That show’s the port’s growth as a trade hub. This partly reflects the expansion last year of the Panama Canal. That helped the port’s imports from China and Hong Kong expand 38% in January.
