Spanish Imports Grow at Fastest for 6 Years, More to Come

Spain’s trade deficit hit its highest since August 2015 in January after import growth of 19% outstripped an 18% rise in exports. The import expansion was the fastest since January 2011, and was the result of a 74% rise in oil and gas shipments. That also helped export growth in refined products. More of the same can be expected in February with a two-thirds increase in the oil price on a year earlier.
