The U.S. DoJ’s antitrust authorities have petitioned the FMC to carefully review the application from THE Alliance to start operations. It cites concerns about the creation of a third major alliance on shipping service pricing and negotiations for land-side services. Panjiva data shows the three big alliances held 48.9% market share of U.S.-bound shipments in October, with THE in third place with 14.1%. One complication may be the proposed merger of the three Japanese shippers who are all members of THE.
