Argentina plans to cut its import taxes on imports of electronic goods. Panjiva data shows that Argentina’s imports of Chinese mobile phone network equipment are similar in the context of its GDP compared to regional competitors Colombia, Chile and Peru. A new investment program later this year may help exporters. The opportunity in PCs is bigger, with a plan to cut taxes from 2017. Argentina’s imports of Chinese computers fell 25% in August, and would need to rise five to seven-fold from current levels to reach that implied by its peers.
