The U.S. has brought a WTO case against China’s farm subsidies just at the time it is trying to show the importance of TPP and during a trade-sceptical election. Panjiva data suggests wheat farmers may have the most to gain. Global exports fell 2% in the 12 months to July 31, and China took 6.1x more of the grain in 2013 than it did in the past year. Yellow corn also has opportunities – China only bought 0.7% of U.S. exports in the last 12 months, but there wasn’t past success. Selling rice to China may be a lost cause.
