Canada’s July trade deficit was lower than expected by economists, and while exports increased on June they were down 7% vs. a year earlier. Commodities continue to be a weak-spot, while autos are doing well. Exports of completed autos climbed at 8%, their fastest rate in a year. These, combined with lower auto imports, explain the surprisingly low deficit.
