The U.S. Department of Commerce has confirmed it will continue to apply duties on Chinese exports of glycine, which is used by the food, fitness and metals industries. This has been in place since 1995. Demand for imports has continued to fall, with a 50% drop on a year earlier in the three months through January. That’s the fastest rate of decline since April 2012. Yet, Chinese exports have begun to pick up, with a 39% rise on a year earlier in January. That comes as Chinese shipments of amino acids globally slowed to just 2% in the fourth quarter.
