It’s What You Make, Not How Much as U.S. Imported Car Sales Crash

U.S. car and light truck sales fell 4% on a year earlier on an annualized basis. That was the fourth straight decline, and 2% below analysts’ estimates. Sales of imported cars led the drop, with a 24% slide to the lowest in 20 years. Imported truck sales meanwhile rose to a new high. Overseas manufacturers responded with a 6% rise in shipments, though that included 11% growth in trucks. Inventories may increase, but not become excessive.
