The U.S. monthly jobs report was well below economists’ forecasts with a 98,000 increase on a month earlier vs. 180,000 expected. Employment in the logistics industries increased for a second month, and on an annual basis continued a growth streak going back to July 2010. Not all sub-sectors fared well though. Waterborne employment fell 1.8% on a year earlier – the fastest since March 2016. That was despite rapid growth in import volumes handled as new investments take a long time to implement.
