A coalition of U.S. lumber producers has petitioned the government to investigate Canadian softwood lumber exports. This is not a surprise given the two countries’ governments have not been able to reach a deal. The timing for the case may mean that it gets mixed up in the new U.S. administration’s NAFTA review. Panjiva data shows imports from Canada climbed 26% in November on a year earlier. Tolko has been the most aggressive at increasing its market share – it shipments climbed 141% in the past three months vs. the same period in 2015.
