The U.S. Commerce Department’s national security reviews of imports of steel and aluminum, known as “section 232” investigations, continue to make progress. Hearings have been scheduled on May 24 for steel and June 22 for aluminum. These may give more insights into the decision making processes involved. Semiconductors may be next inline for a section 232 review. Panjiva data shows that the U.S. ran a surplus in semiconductors (excluding solar energy).
