President Trump has signed a bill encouraging visits between officials of the U.S. and Taiwan. Improved trade relations have previously been flagged as a priority by U.S. Trade Representative Lighthizer. Unsurprisingly the Chinese government has said the bill threatens “cross-Straits” peace. The move comes as trade relations between the U.S. and China are already deteriorating ahead of the section 301 review tariff package.
